Came Down Golf Club

Nick Rodgers - Head Professional

At Came Down Golf Club, we believe every young person should have the chance to enjoy golf, whether they’re a complete beginner or already swinging confidently. That’s why we’ve created a welcoming, inclusive environment for junior golfers of all abilities. We understand that starting a new sport can be daunting, especially for children, but our friendly team is here to make them feel at ease from the very first visit.

Now officially recognised as a Dorset Club Academy, Came Down is proud to be at the forefront of junior golf in Dorset, offering expert coaching, supportive membership and a clear development pathway for young players.

Why Golf is Great for Kids

Golf is more than just a sport, it’s an opportunity for children to learn, grow and have fun outdoors. Here are just a few reasons why golf is ideal for young people:

  • Builds self-confidence through individual achievement
  • Develops focus, patience and discipline
  • Encourages problem-solving and independence
  • Promotes honesty, integrity and sportsmanship
  • Provides a healthy, low-impact outdoor activity
  • Helps form lasting friendships and a sense of community
  • Teaches a skill they can enjoy for life

Whether your child wants to compete or just enjoy the social side of the game, golf offers something for everyone.

Junior Coaching with PGA Professionals

Our PGA professional coach, Nick, is highly experienced and passionate about helping young players grow in skill and confidence.

We run a popular after-school club each Monday, suitable for children aged 5 – 16 with no experience necessary. With fun competitions and opportunities to develop skills further, these sessions have become very popular and are usually fully subscribed.

During the school holidays we host several junior camps, often over two days, which are an ideal way to introduce children to golf or build on previous experience.

Our on-site pro shop is available for any junior golfing essentials and equipment can be borrowed when attending lessons – ideal for those just starting out.

A Thriving Junior Section

Came Down offers a junior membership package that provides excellent value and access to our beautiful and historic course, located in between Weymouth and Dorchester.

Our junior section continues to grow, supported by a strong coaching programme and regular playing opportunities.

We recently welcomed full fields for two major junior events:

  • The Junior Open which attracted a high standard of play and great sportsmanship
  • The Dorset Schools Golf Championship with young golfers from across the county filling the tee sheet

These events highlight our commitment to giving juniors the chance to compete, improve and most importantly, enjoy the game.

Membership benefits include:

  • Unlimited golf 365 days of the year (subject to course availability)
  • Access to our 18-hole course, practice areas and putting green
  • Preferential rates for bringing guests to play
  • Juniors under 10 are free of charge if a relative is a full member.

From intermediate to full membership, we offer a range of membership options, encouraging parents to join their children in enjoying the game.

Rodgers

Head Professional, Nick Rodgers leads the coaching team at Came Down. Nick began playing golf as a 10-year-old and soon became bitten by the 'golf bug'. He progressed rapidly through the county ranks (junior/colt/second team/first team) before turning professional after the completion of his A-Levels. Nick achieved outstanding results in his PGA exams - success which provided the springboard for him to join Came Down as one of the youngest head professionals in the country aged just 25, a position he still holds to this day.

Nick says "I’m currently developing the skills of my son and daughter (ages 12 and 9) and would love them to get the enjoyment from golf that I did as a young boy. I remember my junior days with great fondness - endless summer days spent on the golf course with my friends and I feel fortunate to be in a position to offer the same help/experience to other children. The outdoors, exercise, and camaraderie with other junior golfers are all benefits of playing this great game as a youngster".
